Dental Implants

If you’ve lost a tooth, you have a number of options for replacement. Dental implants are designed to replace the root of a tooth and are finished with a crown, bridge, or denture.

We’re committed to bringing you updated treatments that represent the best that dentistry has to offer. Dr. Parikh has devoted many hours to continuing education and learning everything there is to know about the dental implants procedure.

Reasons to Choose Dental Implants

There are many reasons why dental implants are often thought of as the best option when it comes to tooth replacement:

  • A dental implant is placed directly in the jawbone. This means it is the most accurate replication of a natural tooth.
  • Dental implants are usually composed of titanium, which is able to integrate securely with surrounding bone and tissue.
  • Many people suffer bone loss after losing a tooth, but dental implants are able to prevent this from happening because they bond with the bone.
  • Because dental implants are designed to fuse with your bone they are a more permanent solution than other options.

The Dental Implant Procedure

The dental implant is placed securely in the jaw by a specially trained oral surgeon. Dr. Parikh will work closely with your specialist to monitor your progress throughout this portion of treatment.

Then the jawbone is allowed to heal – usually over a period of several months. Once the dental implant has integrated with the bone tissue (“osseointegration”), we’ll attach the dental abutment, which is the second stage of the dental implant procedure. It will act as the base for the third part of the dental implant, the replacement tooth. This may be a crown, bridge, or denture, depending on your needs.

Not only does the placement of a dental implant eliminate stress on surrounding teeth, it also helps support the integrity of the jawbone so that the gum area will not collapse around the missing root. In addition, the replacement tooth will function in the same way as a natural tooth since it is supported by its own root.

Are You a Candidate for Dental Implants?

Dental implants are available to any adult who is healthy enough to undergo routine extractions and dental surgery. But a good candidate for dental implants must have healthy gums and sufficient bone to help support the implant. Replacing a tooth with a dental implant does require patience – it takes time for the implant to fuse with the bone, a process that will be monitored closely by Dr. Parikh.

There are often many different steps to successfully completing a dental implant procedure. The entire process usually takes a few months. However, once completed, you will have a strong and durable tooth for life!
